KARACHI: Supermodel Ayyan Ali’s name would be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) as the Sindh High Court (SHC) had once again issued orders in supermodel’s case.
At the conclusion of a hearing pertaining to Ayyan’s petition for contempt of court, SHC gave its verdict. The petition was filed by the supermodel for contempt of court after her name had not been expunged from the ECL, despite SHC’s clear orders to do so. SHC granted the federal government a total of seven days to file an appeal against the decision. Ayyan had moved court against Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Interior Ministry for not excluding her name from the ECL. She had tried to leave the country after an earlier order from the SHC to the relevant authorities to remove her name from ECL, but she was stopped at Karachi airport.
She had been arrested from the Benazir International Airport in Islamabad in March last year after more than $500,000 were found from her luggage. The model was about to board a Dubai-bound flight when she was arrested. She was sent to Adiala Jail for four months on charges of money laundering and currency smuggling. She was ultimately granted bail and released from jail.
