Courts grant interim bails to Qureshi in two cases

The District & Sessions Courts of Islamabad on Tuesday granted pre-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in two cases registered by different police stations of the Federal Capital regarding riot and vandalizing public property on May 9.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Haroon Ahmed heard bail petition in a case registered by the Khanna Police Station against Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The PTI leader appeared before the court along with his lawyer Ali Bokhari.
The court granted bail to the accused till July 4, against surety bonds of Rs 10,000 and stopped the police from arresting him till next date.
Similarly, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sapra granted interim bail to Qureshi till June 19, in another FIR registered by the Tarnol Police Station against surety bonds of Rs 10,000. The court remarked that the bail petitions of other co-accused were also fixed for June 19. Ali Bokhari Advocate said his client always believed in the supremacy of the law and prayed the court to approve his bail. The further hearing in the bail case was then adjourned.
Interim bail of Asad Umar extended: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the interim bail of PTI former secretary general Asad Umar till June 27 in a case of attacking Askari Tower in Gulberg, during May-9 riots. The court ordered Asad Umar to join the investigation and also sought an investigation report from police, on the next date of hearing. ATC Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar heard the pre-arrest bail petition of former secretary general of PTI.
During the proceedings, Asad Umar also appeared before the court on expiry of his interim bail. The Gulberg police had registered a case under Anti-Terrorism Act against the PTI leaders and workers for damaging public and private properties, including Askari Tower.
Shahid Khaqan’s case adjourned: The Accountability Court (AC) of Islamabad adjourned hearing of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) reference against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and others till July 16.
AC Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the LNG case lodged by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The defence lawyer pleaded that the LNG deal was approved by the cabinet not by his client alone.
The court adjourned further hearing till July 16, wherein the lawyers would continue their arguments.
